Rocky is Marge’s cat, but she brings him to the store whenever she works and the weather is decent.
She adopted him shortly after she opened Wild Birds Unlimited. Rocky was about ten weeks old at the time, and we asked customers to suggest a name for him. We settled on Rocky – for Rockbrook – since our store is located in Omaha’s Rockbrook Village Shopping Center.
In his kitten days, he thought everything was a toy. He would bound across the store for cat toys, balls, or anything that moved. And he thought everything in the store was put there for his benefit.
As rambunctious as he was, we had very few cat-astrophes.
In March, 2011, we celebrated his 12th birthday. Now he’s focused on getting his beauty rest. He naps much of his workday. One of his favorite places is the inbox on top of Marge’s short filing cabinet. Kim, Marge’s daughter, even made him a small latch-hook rug, to soften his sleeping spot.
In summer, he often sleeps in the bird bath by the door – until it is sold. Then we have to try to convince him that the replacement will work just as well.
